World Child Cancer
In 2017, Love Your Melon extended their giving worldwide to support nonprofits all over the world that are fighting pediatric cancer. World Child Cancer improves the treatment and support of children and families in low and middle-income countries, where survival rates can be as low as 10%.
In past years, our funding has helped to improve the treatments and support for over 1,000 children and families battling cancer in Ghana and Malawi as well as support COVID-19 related items such as sanitizers, PPE, and more.
At the end of 2021, we gifted WCC with $55,300 to support their program in Cameroon, which is crucial in developing psychosocial support through several hospitals and care centers. The funding helped cover play materials, support group activities, accommodations, follow-up visits and crucial support for the costs of leukemia drugs.
The $20,000 in funding we gifted World Child Cancer at the end of 2022 will be used to deliver family support for children with cancer globally. Love Your Melon’s support ensures children across 13 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia can access treatment and psychosocial support during their cancer. Funding will be dispersed across the locations WCC serves based on areas where the greatest need is determined for 2023. This year’s funding will support approximately 228 children and family members. This can cover treatment and diagnostic costs, transport and accommodation grants for treatment and stays away from home, it can also cover psychosocial support such as counseling and play therapy, ensuring children’s mental wellbeing during their treatment.
