Love Your Melon Celebrates National Superhero Day - April 28, 2023

At Love Your Melon, children battling cancer are the real superheroes. These warriors must face a larger-than-life villain: cancer. But with superhuman strength, resilience, and bravery, they continue to defy the odds. These are the kids we serve with our whole hearts, and they never stop inspiring us to keep fighting.

Harnessing Superpower through our Community Partnerships

Every year, the pediatric cancer community comes together to celebrate National Superhero Day. To support this year’s festivities, Love Your Melon gave more than 3,800 beanies to 60+ children’s hospitals across the country. National Superhero Day adventures looked different for every hospital partner. We saw everything from distributing superhero caps and masks, to special visits from well-known comic heroes like Spiderman and Wonder Woman.

Many of our partners distributed Love Your Melon’s Build Your Own Beanie Design template to kids, so they could use their imagination and creativity to dream up their own beanie designs. This was so much more than a fun craft activity, as the winning design will be produced and sold on the Love Your Melon website during pediatric cancer awareness month! Love Your Melon is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. There are 11 Seacrest Studios located within children's hospitals, and their incredible teams handed out beanies, superhero shirts and socks, and Love Your Melon Supercrew books to the kids. They even hosted a live broadcast read-along!

This year, Love Your Melon also partnered with two additional organizations for National Superhero Day to help spread joy to the children we serve. Both organizations harness the power and passion of college students to spread awareness and raise funds for pediatric cancer.

The Pinky Swear Foundation’s PACK volunteered at the Children’s Minnesota campuses in Minneapolis and St. Paul to distribute LYM beanies and play games with the children.

A Moment of Magic Foundation created special experiences for patients at Northwestern, WVU Medicine, and Children's Health through creative play and visits from costumed characters.

The impact made during these events for children and their families, as well as the healthcare workers taking care of our Superheroes, could not be possible without you and our partners! We're so thankful for your continued support on our mission to fight pediatric cancer.

NEW! Superhero Spotlights

In addition to our hospital activations across the country, Love Your Melon introduced a new iteration of our social media Superhero Spotlights in honor of National Superhero Day! These spotlights showcase the awesome warriors that the LYM mission serves. Each post will focus on the Superhero’s favorites, likes, dislikes, and of course, their superpowers. Our very first Superhero, Olivia, was introduced to the world here! If you know a child who has received a Love Your Melon beanie through a hospital partner or through our Request a Hat Program, and you think they may like to be featured, please have their parent/guardian upload their information to our superhero portal.
